Celebrate the Four Legged Heroes too!

I can't believe the 4th of July has come and gone already. (For us, we aren't celebrating until this weekend.) However, we should be thankful each and every day for the sacrifices of the men and women that have fought or are still fighting for our freedoms. You know who else we should thank? The canine military companions.

Celebrate the Four Legged Heroes too!

Did you know that dogs serve in our military too? Many canines are on the front lines with the brave men and women that work tirelessly to keep us safe. Not only do they do things like search for landmines and explosives, they're train to search for drugs, and enemies as well. While they've been serving us for decades, they weren't officially recognized for their services until World War II.

There are currently over two thousand five hundred dogs in service to our country. Seven hundred of those faithful canine soldiers and companions are overseas. So while you're remembering fallen heroes, or thanking current ones, take a moment to be thankful for their canine counterparts as well.

Say Thank You

If you're looking for a way to say thank you, and give back. Why not make up a canine care package for a military dog. The United States War Dogs Association does just that. (Here's a full list on their website. You can even send items to their handlers too.

One of the items they're looking for is dog treats that are made in the USA. Blue Buffalo Red, White and Blue Bars are a great snack for any dog, and absolutely perfect for canine military members. They even look like our American Flag, and are made right here in the United States of America, so they're a perfectly patriotic treat!

Treat Your Four Legged Babies to a Patriotic Treat

While your fur baby may not be trained to sniff out narcotics or bombs, they're still your best friend. So why not give them a tasty treat that they will love, and that's good for them too! I guarantee you they will love the Red, White and Blue Bars froom Blue Buffalo.

Like all Blue Buffalo products, these tasty goodies are free from corn, soy, wheat, and poultry by products. They're made from all natural ingredients too. I just got a bag from Chewy.com and though I know my girls will love them, I am putting them aside.

We're going to gather up some needed items on the donation list for both dogs, and handlers, and send them in to US War Dogs. I taught myself to crochet in March, and I'm already working of some all cotton towels and washcloths for service members and their canine counterparts.
