Lifelong Commitment Doesn't Have to Cost an Arm and a Leg

Are you ready to pledge your love to someone, and spend the rest of your Earthly life with them? If so, congratulations! Also, don't stress about spending a fortune. Declaring your love and commitment shouldn't come with a hefty price tag.

Lifelong Commitment Doesn't Have to Cost an Arm and a Leg

The commercials are everywhere. You know the ones that tell us an engagement ring should cost about one month of your salary. The ones that say "she's happy because he went to...." I call bull. First of all, not everyone can afford to spend that much, and that doesn't mean you love your partner any less.

Secondly, what's the point? The cost of a ring doesn't prove your love. Yes, it's a symbol of it, but that's just the ring itself. You can purchase a ring containing one or more cubic zirconia's for a fraction of the cost of a "real" diamond. The difference? CZ looks just like a diamond, it even scratches glass like one. However, they're created in a lab, so they're man made.

But you know what? They're just as pretty, and way more ethical than a "real" diamond. Since they're created in a lab, they're sustainable. Also, diamonds come with conflict. Many of the African workers that mine them are abused, and have no human rights. So not only is mining them harming the ecosystem, but the people that do the work as well.

Cubic Zirconia is Gorgeous

I recently took my eldest son shopping for an engagement ring. We spoke in length about what the ring means, and that it doesn't have to break your account. Once we shopped around, we decided to come home and see what we could find online. When he saw this wedding set by Van Rorsi&Mo he fell in love.

It comes with the engagement ring, and the wedding band that fits beautifully against it. Made from pure 925 sterling silver, it's absolutely gorgeous. The engagement ring features a 1.2 CT cubic zirconia in a round setting. It is surrounded by forty sparkling zircons. The wedding band features sixteen sparkly zircons. No one will know that it's not a "real" diamond, unless you choose to tell them. As far as we're concerned, we tell everyone, because we believe in human rights, and don't support people being treated horribly just to mine "real" diamonds.

I see more and more people rocking silicone wedding bands. However, if you want quality and style, then you have to check out Groove Life. Their silicone rings are groovier than any other.

What first drew me to Groove Life was their designs. I won't lie. Their rings caught my eye in appeal. The color options are amazing, and then they added a camo line, water camo, the America collection, and even Bohemian inspired rings. You will have a hard time choosing just one, so why not grab a few, and change up your Groove Life ring every day!

Thirteen Years. What a Ride!

In a few weeks the husband and I will be celebrating thirteen years of marriage. It wasn't and still isn't easy. We've overcome Hurricane Katrina, kept it together through a high risk pregnancy, a move home from states away, an autism diagnosis, multiple surgeries and hospital stays for my hubby, then a mental illness diagnosis for our autistic son, and so much more.

Through it all, we're still kicking butt (and taking names) at life. To commemorate our commitment, we got new Groove Life Rings. My hubby chose two different Mossy Oak camo rings, and his favorite color green. I fell in love with their Bohemian Soar ring in teal. I also got one in sea foam green because it reminds me of the Gulf of Mexico (one of my favorite places to swim.)

We love Groove Life, and know you will too!

We've Been to Hell and Back, So Don't Say I Never Took You Anywhere

Ten years ago today Pita and I said I do. It was a million degrees that day in Mobile Alabama, and I literally felt as though I was melting. We had no clue how turbulent our journey together would be. That day we never even considered it. We were happy and that was all that mattered.

Long story short, I conceived during Hurricane Katrina. I was high risk and had to quit my job as a tattoo artist. Pita took a job in construction because there was so much damage from Katrina. Sadly though, people needed their homes fixed to live in, but were still waiting on their FEMA checks, so hubby rarely got paid. We were barely making it. By December we moved back to Pa.

That was just the beginning. From then on, every time things seemed to look up, something else brought us down. So is the way of the world I guess. Our marriage has been tumultuous, to say the least. We have wanted to give up a few times. We didn't. We stuck it out, and here we are.

Marriage is work. It's never sunshine and lollipops. Life has a way of slapping us when we're down. We're pretty used to that. Through major surgeries, chronic medical conditions, autism, bipolar disorder, and living on squat, we persevere. We choose to fight, so here we are.

Today we're having a small "reception" complete with a wedding cake because we didn't have that when we got married. Pita came home from picking up the last minute items that I needed, and said, "Dammit! I forgot to get you a card! I even had something so nice to say. Well, I'll just tell ya!"

"I was going to write: We've been to Hell and back so many times. I don't have a lot of money, but together we have a lot. And since we've been to Hell and back so many times, you can't say I never took you anywhere."

That pretty much sums up our marriage. Without humor and added sarcasm, I think we'd never survive. When life kicks us, we laugh (well after a day or so of sulking.) If someone were to ask us what the key to our marriage has been, I would have to say, humor, laughter, resilience, forgiveness, and of course love.

"We don't have a lot, but together we have it all."
