Thirteen Years. What a Ride!

    In a few weeks the husband and I will be celebrating thirteen years of marriage. It wasn't and still isn't easy. We've overcome Hurricane Katrina, kept it together through a high risk pregnancy, a move home from states away, an autism diagnosis, multiple surgeries and hospital stays for my hubby, then a mental illness diagnosis for our autistic son, and so much more.

    Through it all, we're still kicking butt (and taking names) at life. To commemorate our commitment, we got new Groove Life Rings. My hubby chose two different Mossy Oak camo rings, and his favorite color green. I fell in love with their Bohemian Soar ring in teal. I also got one in sea foam green because it reminds me of the Gulf of Mexico (one of my favorite places to swim.)

Coordinates of the Heart From Danique

    I've long been searching for just the right piece of jewelry to hold the coordinates of my heart. While I love all jewelry, I'm particularly fond of rings. The coordinates of my heart lay on Chincoteague Island in Virginia. It's where my grandparents always vacationed, took us girls, and eventually retired. It's also where my papa was called home. Proud To Be An Autism Mom

    I don't know about you, but I'm proud to be an autism mom. Sure, it has it's difficult moments, but I'm a part of something bigger, you know? When I go out, I love to show that pride, for a few different reasons.

Proud To Be An Autism Mom

    Being an autism mom is difficult, as well as rewarding. When you're able to connect with your tribe, it helps the bad days not seem so terrible. Sharing the good and the bad with other women who get it, and don't judge, is something that I wouldn't trade for the world, which is why I'm proud to be an autism mom.

Show That Pride

 
    When I go out, I often show that pride. Either I wear an autism related tee shirt, or some jewelry. I do this for a few reasons. One is because I like to connect with other parents that live a spectrum life. However, I'm socially awkward. I have had people strike a conversation with me because they recognized my autism merch. It makes speaking with strangers easier.

     Another reason is that now that autism is on the forefront, many people recognize the colors associated with the ribbon, as well as the puzzle pieces themselves. In the event that my son is having a rough time coping in this giant and loud world, someone may see my autism garb and "get it."
