Make Their Howliday Fun

For us the holiday season is about family and friends. Which of course includes our fur babies and furry granddaughter! Thanks to Chewy.com, you too can make their howliday fun! Because our pets deserve the very best!

Make Their Howliday Fun!

My fur girls are so very different. Our old girl Josie prefers treats or something tasty to chew on. Bayleigh is the baby and she loves toys. ALL THE TOYS! So when I found this Boomerang from All Kind I knew Bay would love it! She can fetch it, tug it, and even take a nap with it when she's done playing.

Soft Yet Sturdy

The All Kind Tug & Fetch No Squeak Boomerang is perfect for indoor and outdoor play. It's soft enough that it can be tossed around the house, but sturdy enough to stand up to a nice tug of war game. It's made of durable rubber, nylon, and polyester. The outside edges are reinforced with Oxford piping to keep your pup from tearing it up.

Aerodynamic Fun

Just like a traditional boomerang, this one from All Kind is aerodynamically designed to fly further. Take it outside and give your canine bestie a fun workout! They will love the high flying adventure this toy provides. Oh and it doesn't have a squeaker so it won't annoy you or the neighbors! (For Bayleigh that means she won't tear into it and try to remove a squeaker.)

The All Kind Tug & Fetch No Squeak Boomerang comes in different sizes too. So whether your fur baby is small, large, or in between, you will find one to suit them. Grab one or three, and place them under your tree this holiday!

Buy One Get One

If you head to Chewy.com right now, you can purchase an All Kind toy and get one (of equal or lesser value) for FREE! They have the boomerang, gingerbread man, tri-flyer, bone, a tuggable bow, and a football! That's a ton of fun for your fur baby this Christmas! Check them out!

It's a HOWLiday PAWty

Our fur girls are an integral part of our family. Which is why we make sure their HOWLiday is special too! Josie's birthday just happens to fall in December too so there's always a PAWty in the Barnum house!

It's a HOWLiday PAWty

Our old girl actually turned eight today! I can't believe my sweet fur baby is that old. Later today she will have her special party (or pawty as we call it,) with her sister Bayleigh, and her feline niece Clara. Her gift came just in time yesterday and she's already been pawing at the Chewy box. (Bayleigh has as well!)

Josie, (2010) two days old. The day Liam picked her out and she got her name.

Since it's a party, there will be special goodies for all of them! They will be having fresh cooked chicken breast and sweet potatoes (their favorite!) The beverage of choice happens to be some Pumpkin Spice Latte (we talk about that here.) Both our canine girls and our feline granddaughter will enjoy these goodies! Let the celebration begin! (When Josie decides to get out of bed that is.)

2011 Josie's first birthday and Christmas pic

The Gift

We chose Blue Buffalo Blue Bits for her. They are soft and delectable treats, made from real USA beef. Perfect for puppies, or older babies that don't chew as well. It seems that as Josie gets older, she feels that chewing takes up too much time. So these treats are the perfect gift for her.

Beef is Number One

The number one ingredient that is. USA deboned beef is the very first item listed on these treats. Followed by brown rice, oatmeal, maple syrup and more. No fillers. No by products. As well as no artificial colors or flavors, just good stuff that your canine pal will love. But what more can you expect from Blue Buffalo? My girls love every treat they have tried from them, and as a pet mom, I trust their ingredients.

So whether you're hosting a birthday pawty, or a howliday one, head to Chewy.com. They have a wide selection of everything you need for any pet that you love. We don't shop anywhere else!

Fresh Breath in Time for the Holidays

Fresh breath is important, even for our fur babies. If you dog's breath is horrific there's no need to worry! You still have plenty of time to get their mouths clean and fresh before your holiday guests start arriving!

Bayleigh is feeling festive already!

Fresh Breath in Time for the Holidays

The holiday season is upon us. Turkey Day is just ten days away! Santa told me there are only forty two sleeps until his arrival. All of this means that for many of us, family and friends will be visiting. That also means your pets will be kissing the loved ones. You don't want them to have bad breath. So get them some Whimzees!

The Thirty Day Challenge

We recently took part in the Whimzees Thirty Day Challenge with Chewy.com. This challenge is simple. Simply grab a thirty day supply from Chewy and treat your furry bff to one Whimzee per day. Honestly, after the first treat, you will notice a difference in their breath.

That's because Whimzees aren't just a tasty snack. They're also yummy toothbrushes for dogs. While your canine bestie is chewing on their Whimzee, the treat is working to scrape unsightly and smelly tartar and plaque from their teeth. This nasty stuff is what makes their breath so foul. So, if they eat a Whimzee each day, their teeth are getting brushed. Wiping away all of that smelly gunk!

Don't let Josie's stank face fool you! Her breath is super fresh!

They Don't Just Taste Good

That's because Whimzees are good for our fur babies too. They're made with limited ingredients, and the ones they do use are the best. These treats are gluten and grain free, as well as artificial color and flavor free. Oh and they're made using non GMO ingredients. We all want what is best for our children, even our furry ones!

So don't wait! The countdown in on! Head to Chewy.com and grab a 30 day supply of Whimzees. Your dog will love you for it, as will your holiday guests!

Fresh Doggie Kisses

Wow! It's already been two weeks since I started the Whimzees Thirty Day Challenge with Josie. Let me tell you, we're all impressed!

Fresh Doggie Kisses

Two weeks ago, when Josie would try to kiss us, we all would recoil. Her breath was horrid! It broke our hearts because she would look so dejected. This combined with the fact that she absolutely refuses to let me brush her teeth. Seriously. My sweet old girl will take your finger off if you try to get at her teeth for brushing. We were told we could have her put under to have her teeth cleaned at a vet. That didn't sound like a good option. She's getting older and I don't want her under any anesthesia unless it's medically necessary.

These are just a couple of the reasons we wanted to take part in the Whimzees Thirty Day Challenge. We're certainly glad we did too! Within a few days her breath was already better. Fast forward two weeks, and and it's even better yet. I honestly can't get a good look at her inner teeth because I happen to like my fingers. However, her front teeth already look a bit cleaner, and I can see there is less build up around her gums. (This tartar and plaque residue is what causes pet breath to be so awful. Not only does it make their breath stink, but it's not good for their teeth either!)

Two Weeks to Go

While there are still two more weeks in this challenge, I am already impressed with the results. Just one healthy Whimzee per day has helped my baby girl so much. She loves them too which is another bonus. You can join us as well! Just head to Chewy.com and grab some Whimzees for your fur baby.

Halloween Hot Spots

I'm not talking about the fun places to explore this Halloween. I'm actually referring to the dreaded hot spots that our tiniest fur baby gets. Poor Josie has terrible skin allergies, that cause her to lick and chew all the time. Which in turn makes her skin sore. So how do we treat it?

Halloween Hot Spots

Gluten, insect bites, and dry skin lead our sweet girl to chew and chew. She then flares up with hot spots. We took gluten out of her diet, and she wears Seresto collars at all times. However, the collar doesn't prevent flea or other insect bites, it only keeps them from living on her. So her skin still itches. Then she chews and scratches until a hot spot erupts. It breaks our hearts when she has them so we have had to find other ways to help heal her skin.

Look at my Tootsie Roll! She doesn't deserve itchy skin! (By the way, this was Liam's very first Halloween costume. I did a little cutting and sewing and made Josie her first Halloween costume from it.)

Medicated Baths

The first thing we did was get her medicated shampoo. It has anti bacterial and anti fungal meds in it. When she has a big hot spot or a few, we have to bathe her every two days for a couple of weeks. While it helps, it wasn't enough. You see, you wash her with it, and leave it on for a few moments. But that alone didn't seem to do enough. Her fur was dry as well as her skin on the patches that were healing. She needed conditioner. But do they make such a thing for dogs?

Yes. Yes They Do!

GNC Pets actually makes a medicated conditioner for fur babies. Like the shampoo we use, it's anti fungal and anti bacterial. After her shampoo is rinsed off, I rub this cream rinse into her fur and skin. I rub and massage her for five minutes, then rinse her off. You can feel the difference in her fur after the first use! Her skin? Well he healed spots aren't dry and flaky. It's just new, soft skin. And her ht spots are healing faster as well. I was really impressed with how well it worked. Even Liam commented on how "nice she feels!"

Josie refused to sit for another picture. But Bayleigh loves the camera :)

Smells So Nice!

Oh, and it's lavender scented too. This was huge for us. Liam would complain after Josie's medicine baths that "she stinks like medicine." It's true, she did. The shampoo smells awful. However, the GNC conditioner smells fantastic. So not only does it help her hot spots, and dry skin, but it smells amazing too. Josie loves getting her "pretty massage," with her GNC Pets conditioner. So if you have a fur baby with hot spots, then head to Chewy.com and grab some.

Dog Breath Stinks....Literally!

I love my fur girls. However, I do not enjoy their stinky breath. Bayleigh loves to have her teeth brushed, but not Josie. To say her breath is horrid is putting it mildly. So what am I to do?

Dog Breath Stinks....Literally!

Chewy.com asked if we’d like to take part in their Thirty Day Fresh Breath Challenge with Whimzees. To be honest, my fur girls already love Whimzees. Josie actually got her first one when she was spayed as her get well soon treat. When we saw how much she loved it, we started keeping them on hand, and when Bayleigh joined the family, she too enjoyed Whimzees.

Better Than a Treat

Okay, so I knew they loved them. I also knew that they’re a better treat alternative than most. That’s because they don’t include Gluten. Which, for a dog with sensitivities like Josie, is a huge deal. Another reason they’re a better treat is because they’re made using all natural ingredients. Fur babies are part of our family, and they too deserve the very best.

A Tasty Toothbrush

You may be asking, what do Whimzees have to do with fresh breath? Well, to answer your question, they have everything to do with nasty breath. Whimzees help to scrape tartar and plaque from your dogs (and cats) teeth. Those two things are what makes your pups breath wreak so badly. So, think of these treats as tasty toothbrushes for pets. They’re even shaped like toothbrushes which is pretty cool!

Does your dog let you brush his/her teeth? Bayleigh loves to have her teeth brushed, but Josie refuses. She’s a sweet girl, but come at her with a toothbrush, and you’re risking your life! (Kidding….Maybe….) For that reason, I really wanted to take part in this challenge. I wanted to see if they helped Josie’s breath. However, whether or not your dog will let you brush their teeth, they can benefit from Whimzees. And besides, dogs love them. So you’re giving them a yummy treat, and cleaning their teeth and breath at the same time.

The 30 Day Whimzee Challenge

For this challenge, I simply feed Josie one Whimzee Brushzee per day. Even though Bay lets me brush her teeth, she is still taking part, because it just wouldn’t be fair. I will check back in a couple of weeks, and let you know what we think so far. In the mean time, grab some Whimzees from Chewy.com and join us!

Turkey Cheeseburger Pet Bites

I've been on a baking spree lately. It's been chilly and damp here in NEPA, so that's when I heat up my oven. My girls actually love this weather, because they know that treats will be coming their way. This week I created a new recipe. It's Turkey Cheeseburger Pet Bites, and my girls are head over heels for these goodies.

Turkey Cheeseburger Pet Bites

I had fun creating this recipe. First of all, it used up some leftovers, and I love being able to "upcycle" foods because there's no excuse for waste. Secondly, these differ from the traditional fruit or veggie treats I make my dogs. Lastly, I had all of the ingredients on hand, which is super convenient. As I said, the main ingredient was leftovers I had in the fridge. Also, as a side note. When you're cooking meat for your family, save those grease drippings! I pour mine into freezer safe bowls, let them cool, and pop in my freezer. When it comes time to bake, I break some off, and then warm it up in the microwave. It's good for your dogs coat and skin, and makes for wonderful flavor. Remember, moderation is healthy, so you don't need a lot of it. (I save all of my red meat grease in a bowl, and all of my white meat grease in another.)

With only six ingredients, these treats are simple to make, and easy on the food budget too. So let's get started with what you'll need.

Ingredients:

  • 3 cooked hamburgers (I ground mine up in a food processor.)
  • 2 jars of Turkey baby food (the small 4 ounce jars.)
  • 1/3 cup of coconut oil
  • 1/4 cup of grease drippings
  • 1 cup of flour
  • 1 cup of shredded cheese

Preheat your oven to 400°. In a bowl combine ground hamburgers, baby good, oil and grease. Next, mix in shredded cheese. Add flour into bowl slowly, and mix well. Place mixture on cookie sheet by the rounded teaspoonful. Bake for twelve minutes. See? Easy peasy!

Ground up cheeseburgers make a tasty cookie base for pets.

This recipe yields about 32 cookies. It will keep fresh in the fridge for about a week. So freeze some, and just defrost as they will be eaten. Josie and Bayleigh are head over paws for these cookies. We'd love to know what your fur baby thinks of them.

Puffy Pumpkin Cookies

Since we’re on a pumpkin spice kick, I want to share my other new recipe with you all. Again, I designed this recipe for my fur daughters, but it’s human friendly (and tasty) as well. With only 6 ingredients, it’s super easy too! So let’s get baking!

Puffy Pumpkin Cookies

I love creating new recipes for my entire family. One of my goals is to mak
them healthy, taste good, and use very little ingredients so they are easy to make
This recipe is no exception. You only need 6 ingredients and I’m willing to bet
you have most of them, if not all of them in your house. Like the other recipe,
this one calls for pureed pumpkin. I usually have this on hand for baking, but
make sure it’s just 100% pumpkin. (It’s better that way!) I’m ready to get started,
so let’s go!

Here’s What You’ll Need:

  • ¾ cup Kind Granola (you can use any brand, but we are partial to Kind)
  • ¾ cup Pureed Pumpkin
  • ⅓ cup Brown Sugar
  • ¼ cup Coconut or Olive Oil (This is amazing for skin and heart health too!
  • 1 ½ cups of Flour

Preheat your oven to 400°. Mix the first five ingredients well. Then slowly mix in flour.
Once you have it all mixed well, grease your cookie sheet. Drop your dough by rounded
teaspoons onto the pan. Bake for 10-12 minutes. Let cool.

That’s all there is to it! Using teaspoon sized cookies, this recipe will yield about three dozen
tasty treats. Like I said, humans and fur babies will love them. But remember, because these
are all natural, there are no preservatives. Therefore you should store them in your fridge.
If you want to keep them more than a week, then freeze them. Just thaw when you’re ready to enjoy.

Pumpkin Spice and Everything Nice

Yes, my dogs are basic too. They adore pumpkin spice anything, much like everyone else. (Except me.) So when I saw that Greenies has limited edition bones in that flavor, I was all over it.

Pumpkin Spice and Everything Nice

Greenies bones really are the best way to rid your baby of horrendous dog breath. We never let our girls run out of them. These dental treats help to work off stinky plaque and tartar. They keep both at bay, while also making your dog's smile healthy, and smelling fresh too! This is huge for us, because Josie will NOT let me brush her teeth. So to say her breath gets fusty is an understatement.

However, Bayleigh loves to have her teeth brushed. She waits by the sink every night at bedtime to get her chompers cleaned. I still give her Greenies though because they get back to the teeth I can't always reach. Besides that, I can't give her sissy a treat, and not her!

Since Fall is right around the corner, Greenies has released their Limited Edition Pumpkin Spice Dental Dog Treats. They are made using REAL pumpkin and pumpkin spice flavoring. (You can even smell it when you open them.) My girls go bonkers for them, and we know your fur babes will too!

Why Greenies?

Another of the many reasons we love Greenies is because they are good for our girls. Their bones are formulated with all natural ingredients. The texture helps scrape the nasty stuff from your dogs teeth, and they just think they're eating a yummy bone! Even Vets recommend Greenies for your fur babies. They're approved by the Veterinary Oral Health Council, and even made right here in the good old United States of America. (Pssst, they make cat treats too, which our little Clara loves as well!)

So whether or not your fur child lets you brush their teeth, Greenies are the perfect treat. You will feel wonderful knowing that you're giving them something that's all natural and good for them. They will be ecstatic because they're getting a super yummy treat. It's a win win!

My Girls Get Perky for Pet Jerky

My fur daughters love a good snack. However they get super perky for pet jerky! We just tried out a few flavors from I and Love and You, and my girls adore them all!

I spy with my little eye.... two sheppy feet, patiently waiting for a tasty treat.

My Girls Get Perky for Pet Jerky!

If you're looking for pet jerky that has REAL meat as the number one ingredient, then check out these tasty tidbits from I and Love and You. These grain free dog treats are lovingly made right here in the United States. They contain no fillers, grains, artificial colors, flavors, or preservatives. What they do contain is duck, lamb, beef, salmon, and chicken.

Perfect for Training

Whether you're teaching an old dog new tricks, or a new puppy some manners, these jerky bites from I and Love and You are perfect. Since they're bite sized, they make a wonderful reward for training purposes. It also makes them great for any size of fur baby. My little girl, and my big girl can partake in these yummy jerky treats. (Even my son's cat tries to enjoy them too. I have to give her her own cat treats BEFORE I give my girls their jerky. That way everyone is happy.)

My little photobombers were not letting me take pics of their treats!

Three Pack of Flavors

We chose the Three Pack of I and Love and You's Nice Jerky Bites. It comes with a bag of Chicken and Salmon, Beef and Lamb, and Chicken and Duck. My girls go ballistic for each flavor, so I'd have to say their favorite is ALL OF THEM!

I love that my girls can try each flavor with this three pack. Once your fur baby has tasted them all, and you know their favorite, you can buy other three packs. You can opt to get three bags of one flavor, or stay with variety pack. Either way, your canine companion with have four ounces of American Made and super tasty jerky.

PetTastic is Fantastic

If you're looking for a quality collar that looks great too, then look no further. PetTastic is fantastic! We love them, and so do my girls.

PetTastic is Fantastic

Not too long ago, I got our sweet Josie Joy a gorgeous collar from PetTastic. I loved it so much, that I just had to get one for my other fur daughter, Bayleigh. Not only are their collars adorable and beautiful, but they're safe, and convenient.

The outside of the collar is made of printed, high density printed polyester. The inner part of the collar is made of comfortable neoprene so your pet will love the feel. The buckles are sturdy and made from eco-friendly plastic. The D ring to clip the leash to is strong and covered with chrome for added style and durability.

Special Place for Tags

Other than the great designs of these collars, I have to say what caught my attention is the special ring for your dogs ID, rabies, and license tags. This specialized loop is just for those important tags, which is great because unlike other collars, they're not hanging from the D ring. That just gets in the way when your using their leash.

Three Sizes to Fit Your Fur Baby

The PetTastic Collars come in three sizes. You can choose from Small, Medium, and Large, to accommodate your canine. Bayleigh is a German Shepherd, so I got her a large. It fits perfectly, and has plenty of room in the event that I need to make it larger. (Josie wears a medium. Even though she's a small dog, she has a larger neck.)

American Made, Tasty Treats for Your Dogs

If you're a pet owner, you've probably heard about not giving your dogs treats from outside of America. So today I want to tell you about some tasty treats that your dogs will love.

"Mom, stop taking pictures, and give me these treats!"

American Made

If you're wondering why you should only give your dog American made treats, the answer is simple. The Food and Drug Administration. The FDA regulates our foods, as well as the foods and treats that we give our dogs. However, they can only regulate the items that are made right here in our country. Thus the reason we should only give our fur babies food and treats made right here. Besides, it also helps our economy.

Tasty Treats for Your Dogs

One of my girls' favorite treats are from American Journey. Well, I shouldn't say one, because they have a bunch of different flavors, and my fur daughters love them all. You can choose from Peanut Butter, Chicken, Lamb, Salmon, and Turkey. They're currently noshing on their Peanut Butter ones, and they just got a bag of the Lamb recipe too.

Using real lamb as the number one ingredient, they then add in yummy veggies and fruits. There's sweet potatoes, carrots, pumpkin, blueberries and apples. I don't know about you, but that sounds amazing to me!

American Journey

American Journey has a full line of treats and foods for your canine and feline besties. They offer grain free meals and treats that have no preservatives, artificial colors, flavors, and no poultry by products. You can choose from dry meals, or canned dog or even cat food. They also have crunchy treats, or jerky treats for your canine besties! All made with quality ingredients, right here in the United States of America!

This is Josie. She's asking for MORE American Journey treats!

Get them at Chewy.com

As with all of the products that we purchase for our fur daughters (and fur granddaughter) we get our American Journey treats from Chewy.com. They have a wide selection of items for pets of all kinds. Their prices are amazing and their customer service is fantastic!
